Tom Hanks seems like a good guy. He has never said anything off screen that has turned people off and the roles he chooses consistently are likable characters. Even in Catch Me If You Can, in which he played a detective on the chase of the protagonist, he still wasn't a bad guy.

This article will highlight some of my favorite Tom Hanks movies of all time.

The first film to mention is Forrest Gump, which I almost feel I have to get out of the way. It is such an amazing movie and if you have yet to see it, you are depriving yourself of viewing one of the best movies of the past few decades.

In Big, Tom Hanks plays the part of a boy in an adult's body. This is one of the best movies to come out of the 80s, and even in a comedy like this, Hanks' talent shines through.

One other great movie of his is of course, Saving Private Ryan. Any time you put Spielberg and Hanks together, you are going to get a quality movie. Any time you put Spielberg in charge of directing a WWII film, and you are likely to have a masterpiece.

Another movie of his that should be on any top 5 list would be Apollo 13. This movie was an iconic film at the time and Hanks was one of the many reasons why. "Houston, we have a problem."

Another movie that I have a special affinity for is Turner and Hooch. Growing up, I had a Dogue De Bordeaux, which is the type of dog that Hooch was. Subsequently, this was a family favorite of ours.

A Short Review Of The Movie Terminator 2

Terminator 2 - Judgment Day has stood the test of time as one of the most fun science fiction/action movies to come out. The movie takes a premise that is so simple, yet so complex, and blends it with some amazing cinematography. The acting is a little campy at some points, but it only serves to add to the charm of the movie.

This movie pits the ragtag group of John Conner, Sarah Conner, and the Terminator against a much more futuristic Terminator known as the T-1000. The T-1000 is a nearly indestructible robot from further into the future than the original Terminator.

The heroes are trying to save the world from a global take over from the soon to be sentient machines. Sarah decides that it is possible to change the future, and goes on a quest to destroy the person that originally designed the terminators. They think that they have won by the end of the movie, but it turns out that they only delayed the, apparently, inevitable.

There are many aspects of fate to consider in this movie. Sarah was fated to be the mother of the savior of the human race. John was meant to be that savior. They never were given a choice in this. Sarah wasn't even pregnant yet when the first Terminator showed up, so she clearly had no idea what was in store for her.

There are other issues at play here as well. Sarah Conner is in a mental institute at the beginning of the movie. This could be seen as a sort of discussion on the state of mental health care in America. Though her story does seem very crazy, and she has become quite a violent woman, she actually isn't crazy. The audience knows that.

Yet everyone treats her like she is a completely insane woman. Are the filmmakers trying to say that, at the time this movie came out, mental health providers aren't much more than professional guessers when it comes to mental illness? That if they don't believe something than it must be a problem with the other person? They don't go into this too much, so much of this has to be inferred, but there might be something there.

The major issue of fate is that of John Conner. He is supposed to be this great savior of mankind, and yet he isn't even really sure that he believes it. He is just a kid trying to get by and living with a mother who is probably crazy. He has no idea what to believe, and yet the audience knows what to believe - he's going to kick some robot butt when he gets older.

The strange thing about Terminator 2 - Judgment Day is that if we take the time-traveling robots out of the equation, then we see a completely different story. Without them showing up, John is being raised by a series of foster parents and a crazy woman. He is being told crazy things that really don't make a lot of sense. And it's all coming from the mind of a very seriously mentally ill woman. Fortunately, the robots do so up, so instead of a story about a horribly dysfunctional family, we are instead treated to a story with some of the most amazing action sequences ever put on film. - 40725

The Last Dragon was actually a film produced by Motown Records back in the eighties. It seems that one of the primary concerns of the film might actually have been to promote new talent, particularly that one song, "Oh Sheila", you know, "Let me love you til the morning comes". But that doesn't change the fact that it's really a fun, exciting Kung Fu movie, and one of the must download movies of the eighties.

The story follows a young man nicknamed "Bruce Leroy", a Harlem martial artist who teaches Kung Fu to the local kids. He works at his father's pizza place, delivering pies on foot and deals with his rival, Sho'Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem... Yep. Sho'Nuff... The Shogun of Harlem. This incredibly goofy martial arts tale takes place on the real streets of modern day Harlem and creates a really quirky, one of a kind movie.

Sho'Nuff is really one of the all time great screen villains. Everything about him is just... Wild, ridiculous and hilarious. He walks around with a crew of lackeys, and wherever he enters the scene, he's preceded by a little call-and-response speech between himself and his crew, as if they were the mirror on the wall, he asks them if he is the prettiest, the meanest and the baddest, and Sho Nuff, he is. He wears shoulder pads, visor sunglasses and hakama, those baggy pants worn by samurai. For style and attitude, he's really one of the funniest heavies of all time.

If there's one downside to the movie, it's the whole subplot about the Cyndi Lauper wannabe singer and her promoter/boyfriend. He's trying to play hardball in order to get her played on the local music show, and... Well, it's just not really the high point of the movie. It's not too much of a distraction, but you'll find yourself wishing they'd just get back to the kung fu already.

And of course, it does pay off in the end when the manager hires all the baddest dudes in the city to have it out with Bruce Leroy and his students. These "bad dudes" include a big fat old white guy with a Mister T Mohawk and an all gold one piece suit... Yep, real bad dudes, these guys.

There are a ton of fun, corny eighties movie moments along the way, with Bruce Leroy seeking out an old Confucian master of wisdom; the guy who writes fortune cookies. When he discovers that the fortune cookie writer is actually a computer, he has a moment of zen like clarity.

Could the movie have been better without the weird subplot about the record promoter? Sure, but even so, it's one of the all time classic eighties flicks, and one of the best attempts at spoofing the Kung Fu genre while at the same time honoring it. It's also just plain a whole lot of fun.

The Wrestler: Comeback Film For Mickey Rourke

If you haven't seen the Wrestler yet, what are you waiting for? Don't you think it's at the top of everyone's movie downloads queue for a reason? Actually, you're probably sick of hearing about the movie at this point, so why not just watch the darn thing and get it over with?

The heart, soul and body of the movie is Mickey Rourke's performance as Randy The Ram Robinson. Well, his real name is Robin Ramzinski. He was a huge star in the hair metal eighties days of wrestling, but has since faded into obscurity. Now he wrestles on the weekends, but it doesn't quite pay the bills, and he has to supplement that by putting in hours at the local grocery store.

Randy's lifestyle has alienated everyone he's ever loved and seriously done a number on his body. He has to see if he can make a comeback, both in the ring, where he's washed up, and in his personal life, where he doesn't even have a loyal fanbase to keep him going.

The movie is heart wrenching, incredibly emotional, and while it shows Randy as he is, as a man who has hurt himself and others with his lifestyle, it never judges him or looks down on him. Randy the Ram is a lovable guy, and it becomes tragic that all cannot be forgiven so easily.

Rourke is, again, incredible here. He lived this role in life for years, suffering through all sorts of problems and losing his place in the Hollywood pecking order. This movie is Rourke's comeback, his story, just as it is Randy's. Rourke didn't just play this role, he was this role. Interestingly, Nicholas Cage was offered the job and dropped out because he knew his friend Rourke wanted it, and, in fact, would have done a better job.

They might have been able to secure a bigger budget had Cage stayed on, but the end result is a smaller, more intimate, personal movie, and it's all that much better for it. Rourke wrestles for small crowds, and it really drives home the fact that Randy gives his all to every show, whether he's wrestling for a few thousand fans or a few dozen. He really bleeds it out.

It's an old story with a lot of stock characters, but somehow, it never feels cliche or predictable. The movie is all heart, treating its characters with real love, respect and affection. As a result, it's one of the best movies of the last decade, and probably the best performance of Rourke's career. Even if you weren't too impressed with Requiem for a Dream or Pi, this movie is well beyond anything you might have thought director Darren Aronofsky to have been capable of.

When you hear the acoustic song by Springsteen at the end, take a moment to reflect on what the ending really means. This movie has a lot of depth, and sits somewhere between Rocky and Raging Bull in the pantheon of sports movies. It is, at once, heart breaking and heart warming, both upbeat and tragic, and the ending really drives that home. At the very least, it's a story you'll never forget. - 40725

Well, before making Fresh, he went into a brief exile, stating that he would not return to film making until he had something to say. And... He lived up to that promise. Fresh is a powerful statement.

The movie is named for the titular hero, Fresh, a young boy who works as a drug mule for various dealers around town. Two of which are at war with one another. So how does he keep his head above water when he would certainly be killed if one boss found out about the other? Well the twenty to fifty dollars he makes per run, he hides it in a coffee can by the railroad tracks and... After a couple years of running drugs every day for twenty to fifty bucks a run... That adds up, and the things you can do with that money if you're smart...

Each week, Fresh spends one afternoon playing chess with his father who offers him guidance and a moment to reflect upon what's going on in his life. These are sort of the Greek chorus scenes of the film, allowing both Fresh and the audience to consider what has happened before and where the movie is going to go from here. The chess also serves as a metaphor for what Fresh is doing while on the clock.

The movie is sort of like Fistful of Dollars as a hood story. Two of Fresh's friends are killed by one of the dealers he works for, and he takes it upon himself to exact an incredible revenge plan that gives you one surprise after another. Fresh is a young man of incredible intelligence, and his scheme is one of the all time greatest plots in film history.

Fresh's scheme to take the badguys down is really incredible, serving as a fascinating parallel to the chess games he plays with his father. The master stroke of his plan is that none of his opponents suspect him of a thing, as he is, after all, just a kid. He essentially manages to play dumb and innocent, while in fact outsmarting everyone around him.

The movie can be brutally violent and shocking, which drives home the reality of Fresh's situation. The villains are truly menacing, especially the young thug who typically gives Fresh his payments and is in a perpetual state of planning to kill somebody. Fresh is a hero who manages to remain pure, knowing where he can compromise and where he cannot.

The film is truly one of a kind. Clockers runs in a somewhat similar vein, but Fresh is built around a truly unique concept. The movie takes a young child, around ten years old, and pits him against ruthless, violent, sociopath criminals. It's not a children's movie, even though the hero is a child. It is a film about the power of morality and righteousness over compromised morality and cruelty, and truly a fascinating thriller. - 40725

Starting with #10 is a track from the hit sequel released this summer Sex and the City 2. It's called "Love is Your Color" by the dynamic duo Jennifer Hudson & Leona Lewis. Jennifer Hudson was actually in the first Sex and the City playing Carrie's assistant. This dream collaboration can be found on the Sex and the City 2 soundtrack. Both singers share backgrounds in reality shows American Idol and X-Factor. Lewis won the British competition in 2006 while Hudson was among the top 10 finalists in American Idol.

You've heard #9 a lot this year. It's "Say Ahh" by Trey Songz, the perfect song during a Ladies' Night for your girlfriend's birthday outing. "Go girl! It's ya birthday!" This latest hit single brings the same type of heat that 50 Cent's "In Da Club" brought to the clubs and radio stations. Both praise a woman and her birthday encouraging her to party and celebrate life. At #8 we have one very eclectic new artist. Lady Gaga is one of the most popular artists out right now. For Summer 2010 she released the track "Alejandro". Her Fame Monster CD was released Christmas 2009 including this hit single along with "Bad Romance" and "Telephone". Her tour continues across the states. Jason Derulo is the singer of the #7 song "In My Head". He'll be in your head all summer with this catchy tune about summer love. Derulo praises his girl using a summer smash hit.

Our Top 6th song of Summer 2010 is "Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris. Just about any summer song that includes Ludacris is bound to be a hit. It was played on The Hills season finale when Brody showed up at the club with a date in front of his ex, Kristin. They play it all the time on the radio. Probably because people like it so much, which explains it making the Top 10 list. Number 5 is a personal favorite. Mike Posner's "Cooler Than Me" is great for summertime on the beach or riding with the top down. His unique sound and spicy lyrics set the mood for any summer party or even a back to school bash. Will.I.Am and Usher team up for the #4 song. "OMG" is constantly being played.
