Audio Waves - Home Theater Systems

By Marilyn Moody

Without a home theater system, you are simply missing out on all of the action, no matter what you watch. Any movie will sound ten times better than it did without one.

A DVD home theater system has surround sound speakers, a subwoofer, a receiver and an external DVD player, or it is built-in to the receiver.

The receiver works as the amplifier. It sends power to all of the speakers. Much like a car amplifier would for car speakers.

A blu-ray home theater system is identical except for the fact that you will be watching blu-ray movies instead of DVD.

Is one better than the other? A DVD compared to blu-ray simply cannot compete with clarity and picture quality. Blu-ray is number one for higher definition.

As time moves forward, the price of blu-ray will eventually lower. You can still rent blu-ray movies so you do not need to buy them.

Another option is getting a home theater system without a blu-ray or DVD player. If you already have a disc player, this option would be best for you.

What is the difference when you compare 5.1 and 7.1? If you have a large room, 7.1 channel would probably be best.

A 5.1 channel home theater system has been the standard for about 20 years. It gives you a center, a pair of front and a pair of rear surround sound speakers.

A 7.1 channel adds two more channels and allows you to have an additional pair of surround sound speakers. This increases the surround sound effect.

You see, with a seven point one channel system, you will have rear speakers on speaker stands on the R/L of you. Also, you can have another pair mounted on the wall in back of you.

Do you really need a bigger space for seven point one systems? Not really. You can still use them in smaller areas. - 40725
